St Botolph's Building Appeal

Report of Appeals Committee, 28 May 2008

The St Botolph’s building appeal target is £500,000 which is to be raised over 10 years.

The Committee has met regularly since its inauguration, in  February 2008

The restoration work has been grouped into three phases, costing roughly £125,000, £75,000 and £120,000 at 2008 prices. The balance required will cover cost escalation and set up a fund for the future maintenance of the church.

Five approaches are being pursued, viz.

(a)   Appeal to all private residents within the parish. Letters have been sent out, and donations have been received totalling £8901, including special gifts to the appeal from weddings and funerals.

(b)   Appeal to the families of those recently baptised, married or deceased who may support St. Botolph’s. A letter and brochure are almost ready to be sent to the 110 families identified.

(c)   Fund raising events. Two successful concerts have been held, a coffee morning, and a sponsored marathon, together raising £1,682.

(d)   Appeal to businesses within, or with links to the parish. A brochure has been printed and a covering letter has been prepared. 180 companies have been identified, and work is continuing to find the names of the relevant people to whom the appeal should be sent. Letters We will start sending out letters in November.

(e)   Appeal to grant giving organisations. A Parish Profile has been written, as this document will be needed to support any applications made. A preliminary approach has been made to one organisation. We will make further applications later in the year. Separately, we have received a grant of £7000 towards this capital expenditure

A “Friends of St. Botolph’s Church” has been formed, and a constitution has been prepared for them.
